Patients Suffering from Migraines More Inclined To Have Depression

People with chronic headache, in particular migraines, are in a greater number inclined to suffer from depression, feel weary, and have a host of other austere physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical trial involved 1050 women who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in six states. Of the woman surveyed, 331 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 776 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were tested with migraines.

The clinical trial found patient with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms related to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among people tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the man also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms should agitate or be a manifestation of major Major Depression in man with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Major Depression can heighten pain perception,” said clinical research author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Depression suggests a prevalent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Major Depression complicates headache treatment and can lead to poorer sequel for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The medical research was backinged, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American people are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12.000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better man care through enlightenment and clinical study. A neurologist is a surgeon specialized on diagnosing, curing and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
